Oh hey there

Lately, I have been really enjoying these kinds of wish list, haul style posts so I figured that I’d give it a try to see if anyone in my audience enjoys them! This is totally a trial thing so please do share your feedback in the comments below so I know if I should continue with them. So I guess I’m going to just pile it all into this post, and see how things go!

Please note that this post does include some affiliate links, which means that I make a few cents if you click on them, at no extra cost to you! That being said, I will never include links to products that I don’t fully believe in or support.

Can we just take a second to appreciate how adorable these are?! None of me needs more measuring cups, but all of my wants them, so you better they are probably going to happen!

I’ve been in the market for a new backpack to replace my purse. With all the writing events coming in the future, I know I’m going to need something to carry all my material everywhere. That being said, I didn’t want to commit to a back pack, so I’ve been keeping my eye out for a nice black convertible bag that can also turn into a cross body bag! I think I found the perfect one for me aesthetic wise. I fell in love with this bag as soon as I saw it. I’m on the fence about it currently, since I realized that it is genuine leather, which I don’t support, so this is a big maybe, but if you know any companies that make a bag like this but vegan-friendly, please let me know!

This cicada necklace is everything I didn’t realize I needed around my neck! It’s perfect for literally every outfit I could possibly make and it has quickly become my soon to be favourite fall accessory.

Check Meowt?! ENOUGH SAID! I’ve been looking for new pins for my jacket so this is perfect!

This beautiful cozy shawl from Indigo is currently on sale, and it has sent me spiraling into the world of autumn attire. Hence the rest of the clothing in this post! I felt this one while I was in the store the other day, and let me tell you, it is the epitome of cozy.

Loving the Riverdale vibe that this comfy letterman jacket gives me! Can’t wait to add it to my collection of go to jackets.

20161020173222_63917

Speaking of jackets, I have been rocking the same winter coat for at least two years now, and I figured it was time for a change. Loving the army green moss colour, which is included in my extended capsule wardrobe palette, in case I get bored of all my gray neutrals. I think it will look nice with the ugly yellow hat I plan on making!

This is more of a sheer cardigan but I’m all about those embroidered chest pieces. I really think this will lighten up and outfit I add it too, I can see it becoming a fall staple for me.

This scarf has hints of colours from all of the winter accessories I have started planning out/ crocheting so I figured this would be a smart way of pulling those pieces together, without having to buy 5 different scarves to match each set!

I have been looking for a basic plaid like this, as all my blanket scarves are pretty colourful, this will pair so nicely with that green coat up there! So excited to press the check out button on these!

These two pieces are from Loll3’s Society6 collection, and I am in love with them! I wish the notebook was graph paper, but unfortunately, they only come in lined and blank! The pouch is medium so that it can fit pens or if I change my mind make up. But I’m also debating on picking up the large, as a project bag for some on the go crochet projects, or for keeping notes together during NaNo.

Again, I really hope that this was something that you enjoyed reading from me, it’s a bit out of my comfort zone, so please give me some feedback! I’m by no means a fashion blogger, so I have no idea what I’m doing, and always appreciate the constructive criticism!

September: Small Goals

smallgoalspin

Oh hey there

In my last post, I kind of spoke about some of the things that I plan on doing in September but I felt that it might be a bit more beneficial if I post my goals publically, for all that accountability and what not! So Here are the goals I had written down for August and my progress with them!

(Disclaimer: This post will contain affiliate links, which means that I may earn a few cents if you click on a link or make a purchase through a link posted here, with no additional cost to you! I appreciate the support!)

August Goals:

Finish Unpacking:  In July, my partner moved into my apartment, and since then there has been a constant stream of plans, events or just road blocks keeping us from unpacking all of his stuff. So I set a goal to find time to finish getting him all settled in! There is at least one more Ikea trip to go before we’re completely organized but at least everything is out of boxes!

Cozy bones Instagram:  I made a goal to post more on Instagram, and a goal to get to 200 followers! I got to 215! A fair jump from 80 followers in July! My next goal is 35o, but I’m not making that a monthly goal.

Label my part of the office: I got a bunch of craft cubes for our shared office, the ones you can see in my workspace tour. Up until that tour, they were labeled with sticky notes, so I needed to upgrade it a bit! It’s been on my task list for at least 3 months.

Complete the zine: I’ve had my zine planned for about a month now, and I finally sat down and wrote it out! I’m excited to share more about it in the next couple of weeks!

Start Couponing again: Now this is kind of a half and half win for me. I didn’t start hardcore couponing again, like the whole clipping and price matching dealy that I used to back in the day. But I did log back into my PC Plus account, but more importantly, I signed back into my Checkout 51 for the first time in a couple of years! I completely forgot how fun it was to use this app! I’ve already got $15 on the app, and a little bit more processing after my grocery shop from today! I’m a bit too excited about it, to be honest, I keep asking Drew if we can go grocery shopping again. If you haven’t checked out the app yet, you definitely should! It truly is remarkable the savings you can find!

Checkout 51 Home

No Spend: At the beginning of the month I wrote down a list of things that I wasn’t going to allow myself to buy. The list consisted of books, makeup, bullet journal supplies, yarn, and purses. I’m proud to say I spent money on none of these things last month!

September Goals:

Portfolio: I need to set up my portfolio page, it’s currently just sad and empty and it’s something that is super important for my career. Time to put the big girl panties on and just get to work on that.

Prep-tember: I want to write at least one or two Prep-tember posts each week. I also need to get set up for Prep-tober. Let me know if there are any posts you’d like to see from me.

Outline my NaNo Novel: Now that I have an idea for a novel, I need to sit down and write a detailed outline for it, other wise it will never get written. I’ve tried the unplanned route, it just doesn’t work for me.

Print My Zine: Now that my zine is written, I need to lay it out, and print it. That’s really the last step before it gets out into the world. I’m pretty excited about making a couple extra dollars from something written and made by me.

Blog Every Week Day: Writing every week day is a definite goal for this month! I really want to see if I can do it! I know there are a lot of awesome bloggers that write every day so week days are super doable I think!

No Spend: This month I’m cutting back on my rules a little bit! This month it’s just no books, not purses and no stationery. I’m sorry, but all the fall colours just came out in the yarn department and I have n0 will power! I’d just be setting myself up to fail!

That’s it for today’s post! Share your goals, I’d love to hear what you have planned for this month!

As always, thanks for reading,

Where Do We Go From Here?

(I’m feeling this)
(( What song is this referencing!? Post your answer in the comments ))

Oh hey there

Its been a few seconds since we spoke last, but July was a super hectic and disorganized month. I found myself barely using my bullet journal, which I think created some funky anxiety but overall, the chaos that was last month has mainly been all positive. Its been exactly a month since the love of my life and I moved in with each other, I got to see one of my favourite bands, Violent Femmes, and it’s been a week and a half since we got our new kitten, Sushi. The rest is about a 50/50 split of negative and positive things that aren’t exactly worth getting into. Without delving too far into the details of the situation, I’m just going to keep it super short and simple:

I am currently 100% self-employed

I am no longer working at that vintage clothing store that I mentioned in my first post. Its definitely more of a positive thing than a negative, and though it feels pretty scary right now, I know this was the push that I needed to go fully self-employed. I can’t help but feel a little nervous, this it the first time in my life that I haven’t had a boss or someone to make sure I’m doing the right thing. I have a career coach but its just not the same thing. I guess its just easy to fall into this mindset that freelancing isn’t real work. Its super easy to feel aimless when there is no one sitting there telling you what to do.

And then on the other hand I’m pretty thrilled that I don’t have to report to anyone other than my clients and myself. I’m looking forward to not being anxious about my workplace, and I’m looking forward to a rewarding career where I can learn and grow my business and still have time for my hobbies, loved ones and social life. I’m excited to have time for all my personal goals, as you can see here I laid out my August monthly goal sheet before the career change so I’m going to be making another spread of all my business goals.

20448987_10155329576651013_8782099293528784885_o

With all of this being said, I really need to buckle down and get myself organized so that I can get more new clients in, and not just on a friend of a friend basis. I need to branch out more online and find more long term clients, so I’m going to be incorporating my portfolio and some of my work into this website. If you like any of what you see, like my custom greetings, signatures, pinterest or social media graphics or anything please let me know by contacting me through this site or by emailing me! I’m always looking to make new connections!

So ending on a positive note, I know I’m going to be fine, in fact, I’m going to be so much better than fine! The initial loss was a little defeating but I’m not going to let it ruin my stride! So I’m going to take a little bit of down time, write up a business plan, work on my portfolio, and just find my groove. I have a mini vacation planned near the end of August and I’m hoping that before I leave for that I’ll have everything set in place to really start taking this career seriously.

Not to mention I’m also going to take some time to get to know this new little kitten! This is Sushi, the newest and most naked edition to our family! He’s 4 months and he’s absolutely insane!
20245631_10155302243536013_6645077478593200880_n

Navi and him have really connected yet, it was a super rough start, but they are getting better each day. Here’s a silly photo of them seperated by our duvet!

The Cozy Bones BUJO Guide

Mazie (2)

Oh hey there

Yesterday I posted a little photo of my bullet journal (BUJO) on instagram and asked if any of you wanted to know more about it! I got all kinds of comments, DMs and facebook messages asking and expressing interest so I thought it would be cool to put together a little post of everything that I’ve learned about bullet journaling along this little journey! In this post I’m going to include links to videos, sites, pictures and just some of my favourite bullet journalers in the community. This being said, you definitely don’t HAVE to be a part of the BUJO community, I know a lot of people that are solidary about it and don’t want to keep up with trends or the latest spread ideas, and that’s completely fine! Bullet journaling is all about making your system work for you, and only you. I’ll be showing you both the traditional way of bullet journaling, as well as my own personal system.

History:

The original BUJO system was created by Ryder Carroll to replace the average agenda. It combines rapid logging, an index, a key system or colour coding, migrating tasks and just random catch-all notes to create a seamless flow of productivity. If you want to learn the specifics of the traditional bullet journal go to this site and take a gander!

Customize it:

One of the deciding factors for me when I was researching the BUJO system was the overall freedom I had when it came to the way I use it. If you go into any of the bujo facebook groups you will see that everyone uses theirs differently and that the possibilities are endless. Some people decorate them, and kind of use them as an art journal. Some people use them as a simple minimalistic place to keep to do lists and tasks. Some people even have multiple bullet journals for different projects! It all depends on what you want and need from your planner, which is why I, a former binder planner/pretty planner dove head first into the world of BUJO. Which leads us to my personal journey with the bullet journaling system.

My BUJO:

20106935_10155270226606013_1886698716_o

I knew getting into this that my type A personality was going to make it kind of challenging, but over the past four months since I started my bullet journal, I actually think it has helped me drop the perfectionism that kind of loomed over me all the time. I started with one of those cheap little dot-grid notebooks from Michaels, (sorry I can’t find a link) and kind of just jumped in mid-April. That alone is super out of character for me, as I’d usually wait to start a full month, plan everything ahead of time and make it all perfect. I’m super glad that I didn’t do that though. I got a good taste of what worked, and didn’t work for me, and it got a lot of thoughts and ideas out of my mind. From the beginning I kind of dubbed this BUJO my “Trial BUJO”, allowing myself to mess up, ruin pages, make mistakes. But after I began embracing that I kind of found my true style, thus finding my perfect system.

I think that my system is a little more on the simple side of things, I’ve taken out a lot of the traditional system that I just don’t need. For example, the standard month would look something like this.

  • Month title page
  • Monthly calendar
  • Month at a glance events/important dates
  • Monthly Trackers
  • Monthly Goals
  • Weekly Spreads
  • Daily To-Do Lists

(which seemed just a bit too extravagant for me)

My personal month looks a little something like this:

20050165_10155270226911013_1512590589_o

  • Monthly Calendar/ important days/ goals on one page
  • Weekly Spreads
  • Notes whenever I feel like it

Keep in mind that a lot of my trackers are randomly placed throughout the journal, marked off with washi so I can find them easier, and that I also have a future log for events and important dates that I can refer too. It just works better for me this way.

Decorating:

20048968_10155270225316013_696989587_o

20048636_10155270224796013_2011814502_o

From the get go I knew I needed it to be decorated; given my past in pretty planning and my current addiction to washi tape and post it notes! (COMMENT IF YOU WANT ME TO DO A POST ABOUT THAT COLLECTION! ITS INTENSE AND IMMENSE!) As you can see in the photos above my front and back cover are pretty covered with stickers! The front cover has a beautiful galaxy R2D2 sticker that I found at Toronto Comic Con (I’m going to see if I can find more at Fan expo for my new BUJO) some Sailor Moon littles, a Snot Girl sticker from Bryan Lee O’Malley (my best friend got it for me when he met him in a hotel) and then the back cover has two stickers, one by Hunymilk and one by New Flesh, both local Niagara artists, both amazing and inspiring.

18320633_10155048450851013_2293646062835401151_o
When it comes to decorating the inside of my bujo, I really have no rules for this one, its full of washi, stickers, markers, swatches, everything, I think I might even have a pokemon card in there! I do plan on having a more aesthetic theme for my next bujo, because I really want to share more photos of it with all of you but I’m definitely not holding myself to that.

If you would like me to make an extensive list of pens and supplies I use please let me know. I know some friends have expressed that they want to know what pens and highlighters I use, so I definitely wouldn’t mind posting that.

Spring-speration

Mazie (1)

Oh hey there

Its been a solid few months since I wrote here last, and there are a few different categories of reasons why, but the main reasons are just a general lack of motivation, and just being super duper busy being super duper in love. (Feelings! ugh! gross, I know!) That love will most likely make an appearance on this blog eventually, but right now we’re focusing on that other fun thing: Motivation.

Usually inspiration is the missing ingredient in my recipe for success, but this time around, I have had so many ideas, I kid you not, notebooks full of ideas, but zero motivation to move forward with them. Over the past 6 months I have started so many projects but haven’t been able to follow through with any of them. I think it might be some kind of general overwhelm, I don’t think there is anything uplifting about being surrounded by unfulfilled plans 24/7. So I’ve been working to narrow down the main projects that I want to complete.

Something that has really been helping me with this was creating a masterlist of projects that I have already started, be it writing, art or other things. I keep this list in my bullet journal so that it’s accessible and easy to turn to when I have some time to work on things. I plan on doing a detailed tour of my new bullet journal on this blog at some point this month. Which leads me to the next thing that kind of holds me back from being creative and motivated; Time.

Working freelance has its perks, but the side that people don’t get to see is the countless hours that are spent working off the clock, marketing myself, and trying to get as much work done as possible per day. What people don’t see is the guilt that I feel when I take a break, or want to work on personal projects. I’m completely aware that there isn’t a reason to feel that guilt, because I work hard and should take breaks, but it’s a matter of justifying that me time. I think the best way for me to get past this is to schedule myself a little bit better. I plan to schedule breaks, as well as an hour or two each work day for personal projects.

So with all this being said, I am focusing in on a few main projects:
– This blog: design, marketing, branding, instagram
– A series of zines, on my own, as well as a collaborative series with a local artist
– A few started knitting/crochet projects that I need to finish up and check off my list!

I’ll be posting progress on both the blog and my new instagram, @cozy.bones. Let me know if you have any tips for completing creative projects, or if you keep a master list of projects in your bullet journal, feel free to leave them in the comments below, or tag me in your posts on instagram so I can see them! Thanks so much for reading, have a beautiful day!

A Welcome of Sorts

Oh hey there

My name is Mazie, and this is the first post on this crazy new site. Basically in this post I’m going to explain what you can expect to see here, and maybe if you’re lucky a little bit about myself too. You might be here because you clicked on a link somewhere, you might know me, or you may have just stumbled upon it accidentally. No matter the way you got here, I hope that my content can inspire you a little bit in some way, or even just open your eyes to something new!

We created this site to act as some sort of safe place for my writing, thoughts and feelings; a place where I don’t have to worry about my career in freelance writing taking over. On this site you will be able to find any writing that I don’t plan to publish some day, including personal essays, poetry, short stories or just explorative pieces like rants, reviews or developmental lists.
I kind of have a bit of a list problem, which will become more apparent later on for sure. You can also expect a lot of writing process posts, art, inspiration and music posts, as well as posts about organization, how I keep my life from falling apart, along with my journey towards a semi-minimalistic lifestyle.

You may also be here because you used to follow TheseLittlePieces and if that’s the case, this is the part of the post where I explain how I lost momentum, motivation and just became overwhelmed by it because even though I was changing and growing, its tone and content stayed the same. One day I logged in to post something and it just didn’t feel like I belonged there anymore. So this is essentially going to be my new outlet for content like that.

Well I guess this is the part where I kind of tell you about myself a little bit. As I said before, my name is Mazie, and no that is not a pen name, it is my given name (its actually Mazie-Olivia) even though no one seems to think it’s a real name at all. I’m named after someone super super super old in my family who passed away when they were younger from pneumonia, back when there wasn’t really any medications to help cure it. Born in ’92, I am now 24 years old and not really happy that I have to get any older than this. I graduated from Journalism school a little over a year ago and I became self-employed in freelance writing and editing while I was still in school. I have had the opportunity to interview so many interesting people and I’m super pleased with my career so far. Just for fun, I also work at a really awesome thrift store in the heart of my favourite artsy little city.

When I’m not working I am most likely cuddling my adorable little feline creature Navi Bones, playing video games, reading self help books or beat poetry, writing sci-fi fiction or you know…sleeping? I live in a cute little apartment with my little cat and a guy named Steve.

For now, I hope that you will consider liking and subscribing to this blog and stay tuned for updates on social media links and other posts to come!

Thank you so much for staying to read my excessively long post about myself and I hope that you are having a lovely day, wherever you are in the world!(Leave a comment telling me where you’re reading this from!
That could be super nifty!)mazie bones
